A&E names winners of $25K development initiative at Realscreen Summit
A&E revealed at the Realscreen Summit on Thursday (February 1) the recipients of three $25,000 development deals through the Development Commitment initiative that the U.S. cable net launched in conjunction with the annual unscripted industry event.
Marcie Hume, VP of programming for A&E, announced during a live panel at the Summit on Thursday (February 1) that the deals would go to Curve Media and Crackit Productions of the UK, and Toronto-based Buck Productions. Details of the prodcos’ respective pitches are being withheld until further notice.
First announced in January ahead of the Summit, the A&E Development Commitment initiative invited producers attending the event to reach out to A&E executives on site to pitch existing or nascent ideas. One project would then be selected from each of the first three days of the Summit to receive the funds to further develop the concept.
The first winner, Curve Media, has created a number of long-running factual and entertainment titles for such platforms as the BBC, Channel 4, Disney+, Netflix, Sky, Paramount+ and Discovery+, including such series as Discovery’s Salvage Hunters and one-offs like the feature doc The Man Who Stole The Scream for Sky Documentaries.
Crackit Productions has produced such titles as the follow-doc series Police 999: Clear and Present Danger and A&E: After Dark (no relation to the cable net), both for Channel 5. Buck Productions, meanwhile, is behind such unscripted series as Merchants of the Wild (APTN) and Life, Death & Money (Reelz).
